  • Week 7 Homework (2 of 3)

    Picture 1 shows a basic view of a Sandia Tram car. In Picture 2, the principle of RULE OF THIRDS is used. With the tram car in the upper left quadrant and our eyes natural instinct to view from left to right combined with the downward slope of the tram cables, this principle helps to give the illusion that the car is traveling downhill. The expanded view in Picture 2 also provides a better sensation of how high over and how rugged the terrain is.

  • Week 7 Homework (3 of 3)

    Picture 1 is a basic overhead shot of wildflowers on the Crest Trail. Using the principles of SIMPLICITY and BALANCE, the closeup of a single flower in Picture 2 has greatly enhanced the details of the flower. From the Steve McCurry composition tips video, Picture 2 also demonstrates the technique of “filling the frame”.

  • Week 3 Balance Homework

    Looking at my invitations from left to right, the first panel represents a symmetrical design with a single image centered on the panel. The middle panel represents an asymmetrical design with a large image offset to the right and a smaller image to the left. The last panel represents a radial design with the text radiating out from the center of the panel.

    In this ad for BMW Motorrad rider training, the contrast of the type is expressed through overlaying it on top of subdued photographs. The use of white text also enhances the contrast between it and the subdued background.

  • Week 3 Contrast Homework (2 of 3)

    In this ad for Black Diamond outdoor gear, contrast is expressed through the photo being taken at dawn causing the background to be lighter allowing the image of the climber to standout against the rock faces behind her. If the photo would have been taken under full daylight conditions, the image of the climber would have been less dramatic against the grey background of the rock faces.

    In this ad for Black Diamond outdoor gear, the contrast is expressed through the brightly colored gear and clothing on the black background as well as the use of white text.
